It was a tribute to the musical diversity, and broad appeal, of Freddie that they could get Liza Minelli and Metallica on the same bill. I think having hard rock and metal bands at the core of the line up might have been to make the concert more appealing to the American audience? It also reflects that Queen were a hard rock band at heart.
