Ambrose Edward Barlow (1585 - 10 September 1641) was an English Benedictine monk, venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church. He spent much of his priesthood ministering to recusant One of the Acts of Parliament collectively known as the Elizabethan Religious Settlement. It introduced a Common Book of Prayer, and obliged everyone to attend.

In 1832, the Parish of Saint-Jacques-de-Kildare was founded, which was renamed a year later to Saint-Philippe-de-Kildare. It was renamed again to its present name in 1839 since the Anglican, Methodist, and Catholic pioneers all had a devotion to St. Ambrose of Milan. In 1847, the municipality was first incorporated but was soon abolished.
